  • Beth Umland is Director of Research for Mercer’s Health & Benefits (H&B) business. Beth and her staff oversee all survey research conducted by the H&B business, including Mercer's flagship National Survey of Employer-Sponsored Health Plans. She writes or edits reports that are used widely by employers, the health care industry, the media, and health policymakers.

    Beth helped to establish the health care survey in 1986 while working as a communication consultant for Foster Higgins. She became research director for Foster Higgins in 1992, developing a roster of surveys on various employee benefit topics. When that firm merged with Mercer in 1996, she transitioned the key surveys to Mercer. She now serves both internal clients (consultants who need timely, reliable data to inform their work with employers) as well as researchers in the public and private sectors.

  • Kirk Czonstka serves as the Product Team Leader for Mercer’s private healthcare exchange solution, Mercer Marketplace. In this role, Kirk manages a national team responsible for building and evolving the health, group and voluntary product solutions provided to new and existing Mercer Marketplace clients. His primary responsibilities include:

    • Relationship management of new and ongoing carriers across a broad array of geographies and product offerings, including negotiation of participation terms and conditions
    • Development of comprehensive product suite including plan design and solution offerings and parameters
    • Daily interactions with senior consultants and leadership teams representing product work streams, specialty practices, exchange sales and solutions, and exchange operations and administration
    • Senior sponsor for multiple large/jumbo clients with responsibilities including strategic guidance to clients, serving as product subject matter expert across health, life/disability and voluntary benefit lines

    He joined the Mercer Marketplace team in November 2012 following six years of generalist health & welfare consulting in Mercer’s Philadelphia office. He received his BBA in Risk Management & Insurance from Temple University in May 2007, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.

  • Marc Gutstein is a Senior Associate on the Mercer Marketplace 365 team acting as an Account Manager, Consulting Team Lead and Product Team Liaison. He is responsible for managing client relationships across all lines of coverage as well as identifying, implementing new solutions, and being a point of escalation for product related inquiries for Mercer Marketplace 365 clients.  Marc works with a team of specialty and supporting colleagues in providing high level strategic consulting services on all aspects of clients benefit programs and their alignment with corporate benefits initiatives. 

     

    Marc has over ten years’ experience in the employee benefits field. Prior to joining Mercer, he spent five years with a large national consulting firm and was responsible for managing the overall consulting relationships for clients within the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, while also becoming the Wellness Practice Leader for the Northeast region.  Marc also spent over three years with a regional employee benefits consulting firm where he was responsible for managing the overall consulting relationships for clients sized 2-500.  Marc came to Mercer with a rich and diverse background in consulting on employee benefit design, financial analysis, compliance oversight, funding arrangements, sales and benefit administration.  

     

    Marc earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing with a concentration in International Business and Spanish from the Smeal College of Business at Penn State University, graduating with honors. He maintains a resident Life & Health license in Pennsylvania and non-resident Life & Health and Consulting licenses in New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and many other states.

Prior to joining Mercer in 2002, Branch was with Arizona's Medicaid/CHIP (AHCCCS) program for more than 10 years and was a senior auditor with KPMG before that.
